OM System Launches Tough TG-7

OM System just launched their first rugged digital camera since the transfer from Olympus. This is the first model from the brand that is not a Mirrorless and signifies more continuity for Olympus owners.

The new OM System Tough TG-7 is the most sophisticated rugged digital camera on the market and it launched with an incredible wealth dedicated accessories. This compact camera is built around a standard 12 megapixels 1/2.3" CMOS sensor mounted on a 2-axis sensor-shift image-stabilization system and paired with a completely internal 4X optical zoom lens. This lens is equivalent to a 25-100mm F/2-4.9 lens. At the wide-end, this is the most bright lens with on a rugged camera.

This is an incredibly sturdy digital camera. It is submersible until a depth of 15 meters, freezeproof down to -10C, dropproof to 2.1m falls, crushproof to 100kg of pressure and completely dustproof. This accompanied by plenty of sensors to keep track of adventures: a GPS, digital compass, manometer to measure pressure and measures both elevation and depth.

The Tough TG-7 stands out by having more controls than the vast majority of rugged offerings. It can record RAW files and comes with some control over exposure parameters. These are made accessible by the single control-dial that tops of camera, a first in this class. OM System designed a number of accessories that attach to the front of the camera to provide close-up illumination or change the viewing angle. There are two fisheye attachments and one telephoto extender. The lens itself can focus down to 1cm from the front lens element which allows it to capture incredible closeups.

OM System is ready to ship the Tough TG-7 this month for $550 USD or $750 CAD. Preorders are accepted already by Adorama and B&H Photo.
