The second generation 102 megapixels digital camera from Fujifilm reaches new levels of performance all while acquiring a more compact and refined design. The the original Fujifilm GFX100 was designed to reach a level of performance at all costs, the company is returning back to the GFX50 format.

Everything is new in the Fujfilm GFX 100 II. This Medium-Format Digital Camera is built around a newly made 102 megapixels High-Speed CMOS sensor that can deliver incredibly detailed images at 8 FPS. This sensor has a standard ISO 80-12800 sensitivity range which expands to ISO 40-102400. Extreme dynamic-range that can expand by 400% plus a high color-depth allows it to capture the most richly detailed images. Add it that a hybrid shutter which spans speeds from 1/32000s to a full hour to reach an unprecedented exposure latitude.

This large 0.8X crop sensor is mounted on a state-of-the-art 5-axis builtin image-stabilization mechanism that provides 8-stops of efficiency, matching the very best performance on a larger sensor than any other camera. A lot of photography with such cameras is done from a tripod due to the weight of the system. However, Fujifilm put the IBIS system to great use by performing Super-Resolution capture of images with 400 megapixels!

An entirely new imaging pipeline brings unmatched performance for Medium-Format. The headline 8 FPS drive mode can capture over 1000 JPEG images or up to 325 RAW files per burst. Either slowing down to 5.7 FPS at Full-Resolution or applying capturing a 64 MP Full-Frame sensor-area makes it possible to sustain up to 8.7 FPS for more than a thousand frames, regardless of file format.

Video performance jumps to the next level for its class by using this new pipeline. The Fujifilm GXF100 II is one of only a handful of cameras to record Cinema 8K video. This is 8192x4320 wide video with a 17:9 aspect-ration, recordable at 24 FPS. Standard 8K gets a maximum 30 FPS frame-rate. This Medium-Format mirrorless camera supports a truly outstanding number of video resolutions. Cinema 4K and below allow 60 FPS capture, while it is possible to record Full-HD at 120 FPS. Extensive video features are supported by the GFX 100 II.

This premium digital camera comes with a rich feature-set with extensive bracketing options, sophisticated focus modes, an Interval-Timer, Multiple-Exposures and Focus Bracketing among numerous more. A few features like HDR are absent from the feature-list but nearly everything else is supported.

Even with extensive features and capabilities, the Fujifilm GFX 100 II is appreciably smaller than its predecessor. The new body is modeled after the original Fujifilm GFX50S review here. It is a rectangular camera looking like an oversized X-series flagship yet with more traditional controls. This includes dual control-dials, plus an 8-way focus joystick. There is a large 3.2" LCD at the back, plus a sizable 2" status display at the top. A completely new detachable 9.4 Megapixels 0.64" EVF with 1X magnification, 100% coverage and an essential Eye-Start Sensor comes with the camera. A tilting mechanism can be inserted between the body and viewfinder to allow versatile framing. At about 1kg, this second generation camera is considerably lighter than the original.
