New Light Ultra-Bright Ultra-Wide Prime Launched

Venus Optics just released multiple variants of a new ultra-bright ultra-wide-angle Full-Frame prime lens for several mirrorless digital camera mounts. These new lenses are part of their Zero-D family that aim to provide a wide field-of-view with virtually no optical

distortion.

These new lenses are collectively known as Laowa F/2.8 Light Zero-D FF. All feature a bright F/2.8 maximum aperture and capture an extremely wide 122° field-of-view with Full-Frame coverage. The optics in this series of prime lenses can focus down to 14cm to render subjects at up to 0.21X magnification. Venus Optics already has a similarly specified lens in the lineup for DSLRs but these new models are optimized for mirrorless cameras. A lighter and more compact body allows the inclusion of a 72mm front filter-thread.

There are actually three variants launched under the same name. For more advanced models are built for both Sony E and Nikon Z mounts and include an electronically-drive focus motor to support full autofocus. Two mount mounts are supported by a model without electronics that is available for Canon EF and Leica L mounts. All the models mentioned so far have an internal 5-point iris. Models without electronics have dedicated aperture-rings.

A third variant, which are completely manual lenses, yet with an internal 14-blade iris is also available for all 4 mirrorless mounts: Canon RF, Leica L, Nikon Z and Sony E. These models will render much smoother bokeh than those with just an iris that only has 5-blades. All versions are launched and availability for $700 USD.
