Think Tank Photo FirstLight+ Camera Backpacks
News
2023.04.18
This morning Think Tank Photo announced the start of a new series of camera backpacks specifically designed for travel photographers with two new camera bags. The two FirstLight+ backpacks are intended to satisfy most airline carry-on requirements with a smaller version even more likely to be accepted.
The two camera bags launched today are the FirstLight 35L+ and FirstLight 46L+ which handle 35L and 46L of contents respectively. They have identical designs which includes a compressible front-pock and a detachable top compartment, plus numerous side pockets and compartments. Both backpacks feature a dedicated laptop slot that fits most 16" models. Each offer mount-points to attach a tripod outside of the bag.
These two camera bags are made of high-density velocity nylon with durable water-repellent coating outside and polyurethane inside. Think Tank Photo uses sturdy YKK RC Fuse zippers which are abrasion-resistant. For extra protection, a rain cover is supplied with each bag.
These bags provide an 11-point adjustable carrying harness for customizable comfort. Large padded shoulder straps are connected by a sternum strap while a thick belt holds at the hips. There is convenient zipper pocket at one side of the belt too. An extra detachable pocket gives added height while providing the opportunity to carry an extra item unprotected from the elements at the top.
Two sizes are available for Think Tank Photo FirstLight+ Camera Backpacks:
- 35L+ - Exterior: 12"W x 19"H x 8.7"D - Interior: 11.2"W x 18.1"H x 7.1"D - Weight: 5.4lbs - Volume: 35-38L
- 46L+ - Exterior: 13.8"W x 21.7"H x 9"D - Interior: 13.4"W x 20"H x 7.3"D - Weight: 6lbs - Volume: 46-50L
Expanding the front pocket adds 3 or 4L of extra volume, depending on the model. The FirstLight 46L+ is close to the carry-on limit of most airlines and even slightly above it for plenty due to its thickness of 9", since numerous airlines allow a maximum depth of 8". Given that the bag appears to be somewhat flexible, the different should not cause issues frequently but that depends on how strict airline personnel is at the time of boarding.
The FirstLight 35L+ is equally tight for the most common carry-on limits since it is measurably smaller in height and width but not depth. Both bags are available immediately directly from the Think Tank Photo website. The 35L+ sells for $400 USD while the 46L+ sells for $425 USD.
