Canon Launches Constant-Aperture RF Telephoto Zoom

Today Canon expanded their lineup of Professional Full-Frame lenses for their RF platform with a new constant-aperture telephoto lens. This lens joins an already impressive lineup of native RF mount lenses with a new focal-range particularly useful to sport photographers.

The Canon RF 100-300mm F/2.8L IS USM follows premium Canon lenses with the same comprehensive set of features, including a reflective white weatherproof body with removable tripod mount and plenty of controls. With its 3X optical zoom ratio, this can capture and angle-of-view between 8° and 24°. This is an ideal range for sport photography and quite convenient for capturing images or large wildlife.

This new lens offers three control-rings, one for the zoom, one for focus and an extra customizable one. Custom buttons at the front add flexibility. No less than five switches are the back control focus and stabilization. Alone, the image-stabilization system inside the lens can compensate for 5½-stops of shake. When attached to a digital camera with IBIS, the system can add in extra half-stop of compensation.

Both zoom and focus in the Canon RF 100-300mm F/2.8L IS USM are internal which keeps lens balance and makes it easier to weatherproof. Focus is driven by dual ultra-sonic motors which promise ultra-fast and quiet AF. Direct Manual Focus is available at all times. The lens accommodates very large 112mm screw-on filters and will come with a removable lens hood. Even though this is a large lens, its 2.7kg weight is lighter than equivalent models made for SLR cameras.
