Sony Unveils Brightest Full-Frame Telephoto Zoom Lens

This morning, Sony introduced an unprecedented lens for their Full-Frame Mirrorless Digital Camera platform. A new Sony FE 50-150mm F/2 GM was added to their lineup of E-mount lenses. This lens joins a handful of wider zoom lenses with constant F/2 maximum apertures. This the first such telephoto lens that can cover a Full-Frame imaging circle. It has the longest focal-range of such lenses, even considering smaller sensor sizes. Previously telephoto zoom lenses with an F/2 aperture were only made for APS-C or Micro Four-Thirds.

The Sony FE 50-150mm F/2 GM is a premium professional lens designed for peak optical performance which gets it the G Master label. Sony has an impressive track record of producing super high-end optics and this one comes with a price to match. It packs every feature expected of a flagship lens, including a Direct MF drive plus a number of mechanical controls, including a dedicated aperture-ring with iris-lock. There is a customizable button plus wide zoom and focus-rings.

With a combination of telephoto focal-range and ultra-bright aperture, this lens renders razor-thin backgrounds in images with an extremely smooth bokeh, thanks to an 11-blade mechanical aperture.
