Sony Launches Creators App

This week, Sony launched the Creators Cloud online platform which encompasses software and online services targeted at photographers and videographers with an impressively broad set of tools. Creators Cloud is a hub to store, organize and share media. It also serves a centralized source of various Sony software from desktop and mobile applications to plugins for third-party software.

Membership to the Creators Cloud starts with an account. Anyone is eligible for a Free account which provides 5 GB of online storage. Sony camera users exclusively are upgraded to 25 GB. Two paid options will be added for up to 500 GB. Users have 10 applications to choose from according to various factors, including some particular camera models:

• Creators App - Mobile application to transfer media and control cameras remotely.
• Imaging Edge Mobile - Mobile application to control a nearby camera over Bluetooth.
• Transfer & Tagging - Mobile application for high speed tagging and transferring of images.
• IPTC Metadata Preset - Desktop software to create and export IPTC data.
• Remote Camera Tool - Desktop software for remote camera control over a LAN.
• Ci Media Cloud - Online application to organize and share media.
• Imaging Edge Desktop - Desktop software for tethered camera control.
• Catalyst Browse - Desktop video editing application.
• Catalyst Prepare Plugin - Adobe Premiere plugin.
• Visual Story App - Online service for sharing galeries.

Even though it just launched, Creators Cloud shows a comprehensive coverage of the photography workflow. It emphasizes professional use yet offers software and services for all levels of photographers. Mobile applications can be obtained via the Google Play Store for Android versions or on the Apple App Store.

The online documentation for this new platform is impressively good. Sony includes multiple tables, documents and FAQ to cover various aspects of their platform. There is some feature overlap between applications, depending on the camera model used. Initially, the newer Creators App only supports the Sony A7 IV and ZV-1F. Support for the A7R V, FX3 and FX3 are scheduled for this spring.
