Sony Unveils First Fixed-Lens Full-Frame Camera

Taking their new 24 megapixels full-frame sensor to where none other has gone before, Sony unveiled the Cybershot DSC-RX1. This digital camera features a fixed 35mm F/2 Carl Zeiss lens with 3 control-rings (aperture, focus limit and focus distance) in a relatively compact design that weighs 782g.

The RX1 is a premium compact with full manual-controls, including manual-focus and custom white-balance, plus a hot-shoe and an optional EVF. Without the viewfinder, the RX1 allows framing using a 1.2 megapixels high-resolution 3" LCD.

There is no doubt that people are wanting better image quality from fixed-lens cameras but some people already say that Sony may have gone too far by offering a single-focus-length camera for such a high-price. Speaking of price, the suggested retail price is $2800 USD, one dollar more than for the Alpha A99V, the world's first full-frame SLD. This one too is expected to ship in Novemeber and is available for preordering here.
