Sony Introduces First Full-Frame Camera With EVF

This day had to come soon but Sony is the first one to do it by introducing the new Alpha SLT-A99V with a full-frame 24 megapixels sensor and a 2.4 megapixels OLED EVF. The full-frame A99 looks like a high-end DSLR but is in fact an SLD due to the absense of an optical viewfinder. It uses the same translucent mirror technology as the Sony Alpha SLT-A77 which is its APS-C sensor-sized sibling.

The Alpha A99 for short is has a 24 megapixels CMOS sensor with an ISO sensitivity range from 100 to 25600 that can shoot continuously at 6 FPS and record full 1080p HD video at 60 FPS. It features advanced photographic controls just like all professional-grade cameras. Its body is fully weather-sealed and is covered with controls, including dual control-dials.

The XGA resolution EVF in the A77 shows a large high-resolution view with 100% coverage and simulation of exposure and white-balance, plus dual axis digital-level. The same view is visible on the cameras rotating 3" LCD with 1.2 megapixels.

Unlike other full-frame ILCs except for the older A900, the A99 features built-in image stabilization which benefits all lenses. It uses the standard Sony Alpha mount, acquired from Minolta five years ago. This gives the camera access to compatible lenses from Sony and Konica-Minolta.
