Sigma Ultra-Bright Normal Mirrorless Lens

Sigma Photo just launched their second ultra-bright mirrorless lens. Joining the Art series of optically excellent lenses which already includes the Sigma A 35mm F/1.2 DG DN for Full-Frame Mirrorless Digital Cameras, is a new Sigma A 50mm F/1.2 DG DN lens with full-frame coverage too.

The Sigma A 50mm F/1.2 DG DN captures a normal 46° angle-of-view with an very bright maximum aperture of F/1.2. This makes it usable down the extremely low-light and allows it to capture a razor-thin depth-of-field. Its 13-blade aperture is designed to produce smooth out-of-focus areas for dreamy backgrounds. This combination of angle-of-view and aperture makes this a good lens for portraiture, particularly environmental portraits. It can be used creatively with many types of subjects.

As part of the Art series, the lens is built to a high optical and mechanical standard. The weatherproof lens has a dedicated aperture-ring for efficient use. The ring can be declicked to avoid noise while recording video. A relatively common 72mm thread accepts filters at the front, allowing the use of ND filters to capture images with a shallow depth-of-field in bright light.

Sigma is making this lens in Sony E and Leica L mount variants. Although there quite a few lenses this bright for Sony, including a first-party model, this is the brightest native lens for Leica L-mount. When this lens ships, it will be listed for $1400 USD. Preorders are scheduled to be accepted starting April 18.
