Sigma Photo just announced a new ultra-wide zoom lens for Full-Frame Mirrorless Digital Cameras that joins the affordable Contemporary family of high-quality optics. DN lenses, like the one announced today, take advantage of the short flange distance of mirrorless cameras be exceptionally compact.
The new Sigma C 16-28mm F/2.8 DG DN is an ultra-wide zoom with a bright constant maximum aperture. Its entirely internal design allows it to maintain balance. This also makes it easier to make fully weatherproof. Even though it belongs to the Contemporary series, this new lens brings premium optics to the family.
With a minimum focus-distance of 25cm, it reaches a maximum magnification of 0.17X. The Sigma 16-28mm F/2.8 accepts standard 72mm screw-on filters. This lens weighs 450g which is reasonable for an ultra-wide lens with Full-Frame coverage. Sigma announced that it will come in Sony E and Leica L mounts this summer for around $900 USD.
