Nikon Z Noct Lens Arrives Soon

Already announced in intention when the Z platform was launched, the Nikkor Z 58mm F/0.95S Noct lens is now being produced. It will arrive next month for $8000 USD or $11000 CAD.

The new 58mm F/0.95S Noct is the bright lens ever produced by Nikon and currently the brightest first-party lens for digital cameras. This is the most modern incarnation among any lens with such an extremely bright aperture. Given that depth-of-field is so shallow, the lens can only be focused manually. Its wide focus-ring is designed for the utmost precision and a builtin OLED panel with multiple display modes assists with focusing.

Nikon built this lens to exceed all optical benchmarks and demonstrate the level of image-quality possible with a short-flange wide-diameter lens mount. This requires 17 elements and special coatings to minimize flare, reflections and aberrations. While the lens sports 82mm filter-threads, one would be hard-pressed to find a filter that can deliver sufficient image-quality. The lens itself weighs in a full 2kg, unsurprisingly for having such an extremely bright aperture.
