Nikon Launches Lightest Weatherpoof Z-Mount Lens

Today Nikon launched the lightest weatherproof Z-mount lens yet. The new Nikkor Z 40mm F/2 is a prime lens with a normal focal-length and a fairly bright maximum aperture. Even though it weighs just 170g, this lens offers Full-Frame coverage and is compatible with all Z-series mirrorless digital cameras.
The Nikon Z 40mm F/2 is an incredibly compact-lens, measuring 46mm in length and having the width of the Z-mount or 70mm. It captures a 57° angle-of-view which is slightly wider than the human perspective on a Full-Frame camera and a little longer on an APS-C model.
This lens is kept compact by offering a hybrid fly-by-wire ring that is customizable between manual focus and other camera features. Although it does have a 52mm filter-thread, Nikon omitted the usual bayonet needed to mount a lens hood.
Incredibly, this highly compact lens carries a suggested retail price of just $300 USD while being weatherproof and covering a Full-Frame imaging circle. Interested buyers can preorder one from Adorama which also ships internationally. US buyers have the added option to pre-order from B&H Photo.
