Nikon First 4K Digital Camera Launched

Nikon just unveiled a completely redesigned 1-system camera for its mid-range series. This new mirrorless boasts a 20 megapixels 1" BSI-CMOS sensor with no anti-alias filter and built-in Phase-Detect AF. It can sustain full-resolution capture at 60 FPS with Single-Shot AF or 20 FPS with Continuous AF.

The Nikon 1 J5 becomes the very first Nikon camera to capture full 4K Ultra-HD video and is among the smallest digital cameras to do so. It can record 3840x2160 @ 15 FPS, full 1080p HD @ 60 FPS and 720p @ 120 FPS.

Its new EXPEED 5A processor delivers ultra-fast shutter-lag and continuous capture. Together with the new 20 MP BSI-CMOS sensor, this lets the 1 J5 offer a wide ISO 160-12800 sensitivity range. The buffer-depth is not known at this time.

The J5 is aimed at more advanced users with dual control-dials and a traditional mode-dial, featuring the usual PASM exposure-modes, in addition to Sweeping Panorama and a handful of Scene Modes. Framing is done with a sharp 3" LCD with 1 megapixels that can tilt up 180° or down 90°. Built-in WiFi and NFC round out its feature-set.

The Nikon 1 J5 is scheduled to be available this month for $499 USD or $599 CDN, including a collapsible 10-30mm Power-Zoom lens.
