New Fuji XS-1 Premium Ultra-Zoom

Today Fuji unveiled their all-new premium ultra-zoom based on a 12 megapixels 2/3" EXR-CMOS sensor capable of ISO 3200 and 7 FPS continuous shooting at full-resolution. The X-S1, as it is called, is precision built with a mechanical 26X optical zoom lens, equivalent to 24-624mm. It features a 0.47" EVF with 1.4 megapixels and an Eye-Start sensor. This is likely to make it the most usable ultra-zoom of its time.
The Fuji X-S1 is truly a full-featured camera, with full manual controls, including manual focus, custom white-balance, RAW capabilities and a hot-shoe for external lighting. It has a single control-dial but plenty of external controls for efficiency.
Like most modern digital cameras, this one records video too, up to 1920x1080 @ 30 FPS with stereo sound. There is even a mini-jack to record from an external audio source.
The Fuji X-S1 is great news for the advanced ultra-zoom category which has been less than impressive lately. Until this new one comes out, the best ultra-zoom remains the long-discontinued Fuji Finepix S100FS which will be 4 years old by the time the X-S1 ships in February 2012 for a suggested retail price of $799 CDN.
