Hasselblad Annonces Second Medium Format Mirrorless

Last night, Hasselblad announced the second iteration of their Medium Format Mirrorless Digital Camera. Refining upon the platform they inaugurated as first-to-market, the new X1D II 50C is improves upon its predecessor with a number of performance improvements.

Looking nearly identical to the original X1D, the new II model offers the same 50 megapixels 44x33mm CMOS sensor with ISO 100-25600 sensitivity range. The sensor offers 16-bit output with 14 stops of dynamic-range. Again, the X1D II 50C is shutter-less, instead relying on leaf-shutters mounted inside lenses to give a flash-sync rate of up to 1/2000s.

This new offering provides a large 3.6" Touchscreen LCD with 2.4 megapixels, compared to 3" and 920K pixels. Its electronic viewfinder also gets a boost of resolution to 3.7 megapixels, up from 2.4, and a very large 0.87X magnification ratio while keeping 100% coverage. Performance of this Medium Format Digital Camera has been improved all-around with faster startup, shutter-lag, refresh rate and continuous shooting to to 2.7 FPS now. The GPS module is now integrated right into the camera rather than mounting on the hot-shoe.

Hasselblad expects to deliver the new X1D II 50C next month for $5750 USD. Both Adorama and B&H Photo are accepting pre-orders right now.

Along with the X1D II, Hasselblad launches the XCD 35-75mm F/3.5-4.5 lens. This is the first zoom on the market, offering a wide to standard zoom range. This unique lens is scheduled to ship in October this year for $5175 USD.
