Fujifilm Evolves INSTAX Wide
News
2025.01.21
Fujifilm just released an EVO version of their INSTAX Wide instant camera. This new hybrid digital and instant camera, based on the same principle as the INSTAX Mini EVO launched last year for mini film, now with a wider angle lens and larger print size.
The new Fujifilm INSTAX Wide EVO captures images digitally, which comes with the advantages of a compact digital Point&Shoot camera, including LCD preview and storing files digitally. This hybrid camera is built around a 16 megapixels 1/3" CMOS sensor paired with a 16mm equivalent lens, when taking account the 7X crop-factor of its sensor. The lens captures, by default, a 108° ultra-wide angle-of-view. This extremely wide field-of-view is not suitable for all subjects and so Fujifilm includes a 1.8X crop mode that captures a 75° angle-of-view. A small slider switches between these modes.
The bulk of the INSTAX Wide EVO is taken by its builtin printer that produces a 99 x 62mm bordered image on 108 x 86mm paper. Photos are previewed on an enormous 3.5" LCD which is just one inch less diagonally than images it prints! Since the print is digital, the entire printable width is used for both ultra-wide and wide photos. It takes 90 seconds about for images to form on the printout.
Fujifilm equipped the new INSTAX Wide EVO with an exceptional amount of controls with nostalgia dialed all the way up! The flap shutter and print winding knobs give this camera a tactile retro feel. At the same time, Fujifilm added plenty of modern touches too, including a Micro SDHC memory-slot, a 3.5" 460K pixels LCD, an ISO 100-1600 sensitivity-range, ±2 EV of Exposure-Compensation, Fast 1/8000s Maximum Shutter-Speed and USB-C charging!
Expect to see the Fujifilm INSTAX Wide EVO next month for $350 USD or $480 CAD. A specially designed case will also be offered for $50 USD or $70 CAD. Along the new camera, Fujifilm is adding a new brushed metal film to be sold for $18 USD or $25 CAD per pack of 10.
