New Fujifilm Ultra-Bright Wide Prime Lens

Fujifilm added this morning a 39th lens to their linenup of X-mount lenses. This is an ultra-bright wide-angle lens for use with their highly-acclaimed APS-C Mirrorless Digital Cameras such as the Fujifilm X-T4 reviewed here.

The new Fujifilm XF18mm F/1.4R WR is a wide-angle lens for APS-C which is equivalent to a 28mm lens on a Full-Frame camera, capturing a 76° angle-of-view. This is a highly versatile focal-length that is suitable for a wide (no pun intended) range of subjects. This includes daily life scenes, cozy interiors, environmental portraits and group photography. Its ultra-bright F/1.4 maximum aperture is particularly helpful when capturing low-light scenes and to isolate subjects from the background.

This lens is part of the XF family and built to a very high-standard. Its body is fully weatherproof and freezeproof down to -10C. An aperture-ring with Auto position lets photographers instantly control depth-of-field or leave it to the camera. The wide focus-ring at the front of the XF18mm F/1.4R WR is a linear response with long throw for exceptional precision. The lens supports 62mm screw-on filters and weighs 370g, which is relatively light for such a bright prime lens. It has also been made relatively compact at 7cm wide and 7.6cm long.
