Fujifilm Launches G-Mount Telephoto Zoom

Early this morning, Fujifilm unveiled the first telephoto zoom for their GFX series of Medium Format Mirrorless Digital Cameras. The new Fujinon GF 100-200mm F/5.6R LM OIS WR is equivalent to an 80-160mm lens on a full-frame and features a constant maximum aperture along its focal-range.

This Fujifilm lens is built to the same high standard as other in the GF series. Its optics are design to resolve over 100 MP of resolution and the body is both weatherproof and freezeproof down to -10C. The GF 100-200mm F/5.6R LM OIS WR is one of three Fujifilm medium format lenses that are stabilized. Its optical stabilization system can compensate for up to 5-stops over hand-holding which is extremely impressive considering the lens weighs over 1kg.

This telephoto lens operates entirely internally with an fast and quite linear focus motor that locks down when powered off. Focus can be acheived anywhere from 60cm onwards with a focal delimter limiting the search range to 5+ meters. At its widest focal-length the GF 100-200mm gives a 0.2X magnification. Three rings provide with familar control over focus, zoom and aperture along the lens barrel with a C position to allow the camera to control aperture.
