Fujifilm Adds X and G Mount Lenses
News
2019.08.09
Fujifilm recently announced the Fujinon XF 16-80mm F/4R OIS WR lens for their X-mount mirrorless platform. This new addition to the family provides a higher zoom ratio than previous constant-aperture zoom lenses, one that is unique among APS-C cameras. With its 5X zoom ratio, the new 16-80mm is equivalent to a 24-120mm lens on full-frame cameras, something which is relatively common for larger sensors but a first for APS-C ones.
The XF 16-80mm F/4R offers a moderately bright aperture across its ultra-wide to short telephoto range. Its optical formulation makes it incredibly versatile by achieving a 0.25X magnification. Since most Fujifilm mirrorless digital cameras are not stabilized, the XF16-80mm F/4R OIS WR comes with class-leading Optical Image Stabilization which is effective to 6 stops over hand-holding! Its sophisticated image stabilization system can dampen shutter-shock and detect when the camera is mounted on a tripod.
Although light-weight, a just 440g, this new lens is fully weatherproof and freezeproof to maximize versatility. Its durable body offers a direct aperture-ring and an ultra-quiet focusing motor. The lens accepts 72mm filters and features a 9-blade aperture. Fujifilm expects to ship this lens on September 26 for $800 USD or $1050 CAD. Amazon, Adorama and B&H Photo are already accepting pre-orders for what is certain to be a must-have lens for X-mount mirrorless cameras.
Also launched along with the XF 16-80mm is a new lightweight normal lens for the G-platform of Medium Format Mirrorless Digital Cameras. The new Fujinon GF 50mm F/3.5R LM WR is the lightest lens in the family while providing a slightly wider field-of-view than the GF 63mm F/2.8R WR.
The GF 50mm F/3.5R LM WR adds more choice to a system which is dominated by prime lenses, bringing the number of Fujifilm lenses for the platform to 9. This new lens accepts 62mm filters and features a silent linear motor within a weatherproof and freezeproof body. Its 9-blade aperture will render smooth bokeh that contribute to the medium format look expected from this system.
This new lens is also expected on September 26 and pre-orders are already accepted at: Amazon, Adorama and B&H Photo.
