Canon Introduces 2 Extreme Wide Full-Frame Lenses
News
2026.02.05
Just this morning, Canon launched two new lenses for their RF system of Full-Frame Mirrorless Digital Cameras. The two new additions are among the widest in their class. Both are premium offerings with Full-Frame coverage and also compatible with APS-C cameras using the RF mount.
The most outstanding of the two is the entirely new Canon RF 7-14mm F/2.8-3.5L Fisheye STM This model is a Fisheye Zoom that transitions from circular to rectangular fisheye by zooming from 7 to 14mm. At its widest, the RF 7-14mm captures an incredible 190° field-of-view. Even at its longest focal-length, this lens still captures a 180° corner-to-corner viewing angle. The lens has a fairly bright F/2.8 maximum aperture at 7mm which narrows down slightly to F/3.5 by the time it reaches 14mm.
This Fisheye Zoom lens offers comprehensive features, include three rings to control zoom, focus and a custom function, plus a customizable button and a rear filter-holder. The front bulbous lens element can be protected by a detachable hood. As a premium lens, the Canon RF 7-14mm F/2.8-3.5L STM is fully weatherproof. This lens is not very large or heavy, weighing around 480g.
Next, there is the Canon RF 14mm F/1.4L VCM, an extremely wide rectilinear premium prime lens offering Full-Fame coverage. While Canon already makes a 14mm lens for RF mount, this one is by far the brightest. Its F/1.4 maximum aperture lets 4X more light in than the Canon RF 14mm F/2.8L II USM. At this focal-length Full-Frame lenses capture an extremely wide 114° viewing-angle.
The new Canon RF 14mm F/1.4L VCM is built as a single barrel with entirely internal mechanisms. The internal focus system plus fixed barrel allows it to minimize focus breathing, while the VCM motor provides autofocus that is both fast and quiet simultaneously. This lens has a focus-ring, an aperture-ring and a customizable one. The rear of the lens has a slot to accept gel filters since the front element is protected by fixed lens hood. This lens is also weatherproof. Although it has virtually the same dimensions as the Canon RF 7-14mm F/2.8-3.5L Fisheye STM, this model is a notably heavier, weighing 580g.
These new lenses are premium additions to the RF system and, as such, come with high pricing. Both lenses are expected to arrive later his month. For RF 7-14mm F/2.8-3.5L Fisheye STM is being launched for $1900 USD, while the RF 14mm F/1.4L VCM will go for $2600 USD. Adorama and B&H Photo are already setup to accept pre-orders:
