Indoor Crops

Crops below show the image quality of the Olympus Stylus 1 next to the same ISO for the Nikon Coolpix P7700
Nikon Coolpix P7700
. These cameras have a big sensitivity range, starting at ISO 100 and reaching 12800 for the Olympus and 6400 for the Nikon. These are both advanced fixed-lens digital cameras with larger-than-average CMOS sensors and dual-control-dials. The most significant difference between them is the lens which is longer (10.7X vs 7X) on the Stylus 1. Impressively, the Stylus one also maintains a constant F/2.8 aperture, while the P7700 starts brighter at F/2 and ends narrower at F/4.

All images below are 100% crops from their respective camera taken at the highest image quality JPEG setting available. ISO, aperture and white-balance were set on camera. Other settings were left at their default values. These crops help determine which ISO settings is acceptable on these cameras. As noise increases, most cameras compensate with noise reduction which introduces softness. The point at which a print become unacceptably noisy is a matter of personal taste.
