ZY Optics Launches Mitakon T/1 Series

ZY Optics, the makers of extremely bright lenses, just announced a brand new Cine series of lenses with a T/1 maximum aperture which is generally even brighter than an F/1 lens. Instead of simply launching the first prime lens in a series, ZY Optics released 4 lenses of matching brightness.

There are quite a few stand out specifications among these lenses. All of them feature a maximum T/1 brightness and can stop down to T/16. The entire lineup is launched uniquely for Micro Four-Thirds mount only to achieve exceptionally lighter weight than possible for a larger mount.

The new series is designed for video capture, as indicated by the word Cine in their names. These lenses are designed to minimize focus breathing and provide a very linear response. These are completely manual lenses with dedicated gears for focus and aperture control. These are driven by external mechanical devices for focus and aperture to be adjusted smoothly. To make this simpler, ZY Optics made all these lenses the same diameter and all except the Mitakon Speedmaster 50mm T/1 have the same 99mm lens. The 50mm is just 3mm longer. Also matching is the 77mm filter-thread available on all lenses.

All four lenses in the Speedmaster T/1 Cine series are:

• Mitakon Speedmaster 17mm T/1 Cine
• Mitakon Speedmaster 25mm T/1 Cine
• Mitakon Speedmaster 35mm T/1 Cine
• Mitakon Speedmaster 50mm T/1 Cine

These lenses are surprisingly affordable at $400 USD for a single prime lens. A bundle of all four lenses packed in a specially designed rugged case for $1340 USD.
