Venus Launches Laowa 58mm F/2.8 2X Ultra-Macro

Venus Optics, the makers of a huge number of high-magnification lenses, just added another Ultra-Macro to the established Dreamer series. This addition is designed for Full-Frame Mirrorless Digital Cameras and comes in four lens mounts.

The Laowa 58mm F/2.8 2X Ultra-Macro is normal manual prime lens with a 2X magnification ratio. It captures a 40° angle-of-view with its subject between 18.5cm and infinity. It has a relatively bright F/2.8 maximum aperture and 13-blade aperture combine to create images with an incredibly shallow Depth-of-Field, particularly when it is focused at a macro distance.

This close-focusing lens is ideal to capture insects, flowers, jewelry and fine detail of artwork. It can be also mounted an APS-C camera to render a perspective equivalent to an 87mm lens on a Full-Frame camera. Venus Optics makes this lens in four mirrorless mounts: Sony E, Canon RF, Nikon Z and Leica L.

The Laowa 58mm F/2.8 Ultra-Macro weighs in a hefty 595g. It measures 12cm long and 7.5cm in diameter which makes it about average size for a Full-Frame macro lens. Versions of the lens are available for order directly from the Venus Optics Website for $500 USD.
