Venus Launches The Widest Micro Four-Thirds Lens

Continuous the tradition of offering impressively wide lenses for various mounts, Venus Optics just announced the widest rectilinear lens ever made for Micro Four-Thirds! This ultra-short focal-length prime lens is designed specifically for Micro Four-Thirds and cannot be made for any other lens mount.

The new Venus Optics Laowa 6mm F/2 Zero-D MFT is an extremely wide prime lens which covers a viewing angle of 121° or the equivalent of a 12mm Full-Frame lens. It manages such extreme angle-of-view in the most compact and lightest design to date while also providing a bright F/2 maximum aperture. No other lens covers an angle this wide with such a bright aperture!

This prime lens can focus down to 9cm from the focal-plane, resulting in a maximum magnification of 0.18X. Its incredibly small body is 6cm in diameter and 5.2cm long. A simple 5-blade aperture allows Venus Optics to make this lens even lighter, a mere 188g. Despite this, and quite unusually for an extremely-wide-angle lens is that the Laowa 6mm F/2 Zero-D MFT provides a 58mm filter-thread.

This Micro Four-Thirds lens is a hybrid lens, a change in approach for Venus Optics, as it requires manual-focus but its aperture is controlled electronically and the lens transmits EXIF information which would make it possible to automatically stabilize on cameras with IBIS.
