Tough Fuji Finepix Digital Cameras

Fuji unwrapped two new waterproof models today. The Finepix XP30 and XP20 are tougher and more waterproof then their predecessor, the XP10. They can both be submerged underwater to 5m and withstand drops up to 1.5m. They are also freezeproof to -10C, leaving very few more durable digital cameras.

The XP30 and XP20 are nearly identical except for the built-in GPS system of the XP30. This is a first for a rugged or underwater model. This GPS system is the same one used in the Finepix F550 EXR which was also announced today. It records the position and has a database of ½ million landmarks, with the closest one recorded along with the coordinates. The XP30 can then search for images by landmarks. It also features a navigation aid that points to the location of a previously taken picture.

Both new waterproof cameras are built around a 14 megapixels CCD and non-protruding 5X wide-angle optical zoom lens. The lens features built-in stabilization and the sensor is capable of recording 720p video while using the zoom without dropping audio.
