Sony Launches Widest FE Prime

Sony expanded their lineup of Full-Frame lenses for E-mount this morning with a surprise announcement for the Sony FE 20mm F/1.8G. Joining the growing family of high-end G-lenses, this lens is the widest native prime for E-mount by Sony. Its bright maximum aperture a full-stop wider than zoom lenses covering its focal-length.

The new Sony FE 20mm F/1.8G is designed to deliver exceptional image-quality in a light-weight and relatively compact design. Its durable body is weatherproof and features a declickable aperture-ring and focus-hold button, plus the usual AF/MF switch. The front of the lens accommodates standard 67mm filters. This 20mm offers features for photography and videography, including a silent linear autotfocus motor. A switch on the side of the lens, allows the aperture-ring to rotate smoothly without stops.

With its combination of bright optics and ultra-wide angle-of-view, the Sony FE 20mm F/1.8G is ideal for various types of night photography, from architecture to astrophotography. This is attractive lens for travel photographers capturing images in interiors of monuments, churches and temples.
