Sony Launches Innovative Wireless Grip

This morning Sony launched a completely novel accessory for wireless shooting with many of their digital cameras, including most recent mirrorless, premium compact models and action camera. The new GP-VPT2BT is a vertical grip that communicates via Bluetooth to take photos or record video. The grip doubles as a table-top tripod and features similar controls to their Bluetooth camera remote.

The GP-VPT2BT is durably built with a weatherproof construction and requires no cables since communication is wireless. It can be used as front-facing or rear-facing to support both standard and vlog-style shooting or selfies. The new grip is compatible with the A9 II, A9, Sony A7R IV reviewed here, A7R III, A7 III, A6600, A6400, A6100, RX10 VII and the latest RX0.

Sony made the base of the VPT2BT open up to create two front-legs that convert the grip into a table-top tripod while maintaining controls easily accessible. The grip connects via the standard tripod-mount screws.

This new GP-VPT2BT is scheduled to ship towards the end of this month of $140 USD or $180 CAD.
