Pentax Launches DA* 11-18mm F/2.8 and HD FA 35mm F/2 Lenses

Ricoh just officially launched two new lenses, one matched to each sensor sizes of their Pentax DSLRs.

The previously previewed DA* 11-18mm F/2.8 becomes the widest Pentax rectilinear lens on the market and the first ultra-wide built to the top-notch DA* series. This ultra-wide angle constant aperture zoom is designed to cover the imaging circle of an APS-C sensor while providing a 104° maximum angle-of-view.

Ricoh has given the DA* 11-18mm F/2.8 a new rugged construction which is fully weatherproof and freezeproof to -10C. Its metal frame allows heat-conductivity to keep the lens warm using a heating wire. There is also a unique Focus Clamp that will fix focus at a set distance. Unusually for an ultra-wide angle lens, this one supports 82mm screw-in filters. At 704g, this F/2.8 lens is exceptionally light for its class.

A normal lens for full-frame has also been announced. The new HD FA 35mm F/2 is based on a classic 35mm lens with a moderately bright F/2 maximum aperture. It is designed as a light-weight lens to deliver nice image-quality without much bulk. While this one is not weatherproof, it is freezeproof to -10C.

The Pentax HD FA 35mm F/2 lens is built with HD coatings to reduce internal reflection and flare. It accepts 49mm filters and features a manual aperture-ring with automatic control. At just 193g, this is one of the lightest full-frame lenses on the market.

Both lenses are expected to ship next month. The Pentax DA* 11-18mm F/2.8 ED DC AW is expected to sell for $1400 USD, while the Pentax HD FA 35mm F/2 would go for $400 USD.
