Olympus XZ-1 Detailed Review Published

The Olympus XZ-1 is an all-new design from Olympus which makes a bold entrance into the advanced compact market. This model is equipped with an ultra-bright F/1.8 wide-angle 4X optical zoom lens, equivalent to 28-112mm. The maximum aperture of F/1.8 at wide-angle only drops down to F/2.5 at the telephoto end. The XZ-1 is also equipped with a relatively large sensor for its class.

As an advanced compact, this is one of the most feature-rich to date. Manual controls, including custom white-balance, manual-focus, spot metering are obviously there and this digital cameras has two control dials to operate it efficiently. The Olympus XZ-1 also has a hot-shoe with accessory port which not only supports external lighting but also an EVF, a stereo microphone and more.

No doubt there will be comparisons with the Nikon Coolpix P300 which was reviewed last on Neocamera. While that one too has an F/1.8 aperture at its widest focal-length, the lens starts at an ultra-wide 24mm and is paired with a smaller but much faster CMOS sensor. Choosing will certainly not be easy!
