Olympus Finalizes M.Zuiko 17mm F/1.8 Lens

Olympus just unveiled their latest Micro Four-Thirds lens, the bright M.Zuiko 17mm F/1.8. This high-grade lens is build using the same metal construction as the superb M.Zuiko 12mm F/2, including its unique snap-focus mechanism. This mechanism allows the lens to quickly switch from its autofocus mode to manual-focus with a direct mechanical link.
The M.Zuiko 17mm F/1.8 is designed for low-light performance with a moderate wide-angle equivalent to 34mm on a film camera. Olympus accomplished this with nine lens elements arranged in six groups, including three aspherical elements. Flare is controlled using Olympus' own Zuiko Extra-Low Reflection Optical-Coating. Not forgetting the size-advantage of the Micro Four-Thirds system, the M.Zuiko 17mm F/1.8 measures under 4cm (1.4") in length and still manages to fit a quiet Movie-and-Still-Compatible (MSC) autofocus mechanism.
This new lens is scheduled to be available next month for an estimated price of $499 USD.
