Nikon Announces Development of Standard Power-Zoom Lens

This morning Nikon announced that they are working a Power-Zoom lens for Full-Frame Z mount cameras. This upcomming lens will boast a 28-135mm focal-range, giving it almost 5X optical zoom. It will keep a maximum F/4 constant aperture across its zoom range.

Very little information is know about the lens but Nikon shared a prototype image. This may not be the final look but it does that there are triple rings, which must be for zoom, focus and custom control, plus a zoom slider. There is at least one customizable button and a A/M which that indicates the autofocus mechanism is probably not a Quick-Shift one. The lens body is quite sizable and the inclusion of a tripod mount supports the fact that this is expected to be a heavy lens.

The Nikon Z 28-135mm F/4 PZ is intended for videographers. There should be a more detailed announcement in the next few months. If Nikon showed this, it is because they are getting close to launch but keep in mind that they may change their plans.
