Nikon Officially Launches CES 2023 Prime Lenses

Just a month ago, Nikon announced the development of two new prime lenses for their Z-mount platform during CES 2023. Normally such announcements are made well in advance of release but in this case Nikon finished these lenses in record time.

First up is the ultra-premium Nikkor Z 85mm F/1.2S, one of the brightest autofocus lenses available for Z-mount. This lens delivers the classic 85mm focal-length favored for portraiture with a very bright aperture which renders razor-thin depth-of-field for a remarkable subject-background separation.

This lens is built with the most advanced Nikon optics and coatings to maximize image quality. Its body is built to handle quickly and resist the elements. It is fully weatherproof and comes with three rings to manually control focus, aperture and an extra customizable parameter.

The Nikon Z 85mm F/1.2S is scheduled to be available next month for $2800 USD or $3800 CAD. The price and its hefty 1.2kg weight is expected to be worth the price for professional photographers.

Next is a lens at the opposite end of the spectrum. The new Nikkor Z 26mm F/2.8 is their slimmest and lightest full-frame lens ever. At one inch thick, this is truly a pancake lens. The 26mm focal-length makes it relatively wide and captures a 80° field-of-view which is very impressive considered this small lens also has a F/2.8 aperture.

This lens is designed to complement the Z-series of Full-Frame mirrorless digital cameras. Nikon managed to make this tiny lens weather-sealed, something generally omitted from pancake lenses. Due to its size, the lens requires a lens hood to attach a screw-on filter, since it lacks a filter-thread. A slim ring though supports manual focusing.

This pancake lens is coming in March too for $500 USD or $680 CAD. Expect the new Nikkor Z 26mm F/2.8 to become a popular part of a Nikon Z-mount setup.
