Nikon D850 Breaks New DxOMark Record

Today, DxO unveiled its ranking of the Nikon D850. This latest full-frame DSLR from Nikon is the eagerly anticipated successor to the excellent 3-year-old Nikon D810 reviewed here. Famed for its high-resolution sensor and superb dynamic-range, the D810 is currently the Nikon DSLR for choice for landscape and architectural photography.

The Nikon D850 just announced less than 2 months ago sports a 46 megapixels BSI CMOS sensor, the first full-frame of its kind used in a Nikon camera. This technology makes pixels on the sensor more efficient at gathering light, giving the D810 a standard ISO 64-25600 sensitivity range, expandable to ISO 32-102400.

According to DxO, the Nikon D850 delivers on expectation, reaching the unprecedented score of 100 DxOMark points. This DSLR bests all other cameras on that scale with component scores of 26.4 bits color-depth, 14.8 EV dynamic-range and 2660 Sports points. Color-depth exceeds anything but the Medium Format 80 megapixels Phase One IQ180. Dynamic-range matches that of the Nikon D810, tying for top-stop, while sports points understably falls below its predecessor which sports much larger pixels.
