Nikon Adds Five New Coolpix Cameras

Along with their new flagship models, Nikon has added 5 new compact and ultra-compact cameras to the S-series. These are all fully automatic models with 16 megapixels and varying optical zoom lenses:

• First up is the Nikon Coolpix S9300 which is a compact travel-zoom with an impressive 18X optical zoom lens equivalent to 25-450mm in a 1.2" thick body (31mm). It also packs a large 3" LCD with 920K pixels and a built-in GPS. This model will be available next month for $349 USD or CDN. Canada also gets the Coolpix S9200 which excludes a GPS but is otherwise identical. That one will go for $319 CDN instead. Both these digital cameras a built around a 16 MP BSI-CMOS sensor and have plenty of high-speed features including full 1080p HD video capture and 360° sweeping panorama.
• The intermediate model is the Coolpix S6300 which shares the same 16 MP BSI-CMOS sensor as its larger sibling and can also shoot full 1080p HD video with stereo sound plus sweep panoramas. This one packs a 10X ultra-wide-angle optical zoom equivalent to 25-250mm which is still very respectable considering its only 1" (26mm) thick. The S630 ships next month for $199 USD or $229 CDN.
• The two entry-level models are the Nikon Coolpix S4300 and S3300. These both use a traditional CCD with the same 16 MP resolution as the previous models. They can still shoot HD video but at 720p which is still enough to capture very detailed movies. The S3300 and S4300 share a stabilized wide-angle 6X optical zoom lens, equivalent to 26-156mm. While the S3300 uses a 2.7" LCD with 230K pixels, the S4300 uses a 3" LCD touchscreen with 460K pixels. These cameras share the same battery and are expected next month for $169 USD or $170 CDN and $139 USD or $159 CDN respectively.
