New Canon EOS 1D Mark IV Also Reaches ISO 102,400

Canon Canada just launched the EOS 1D Mark IV, a new top-of-the-line 1.3X crop sensor DSLR. This one features a 16 megapixels sensor capable of shooting continuously at 10 FPS. This mid-sized sensor has a standard ISO range of 100-12800 and 3 expanded ultra-high-ISO settings reaching a maximum of ISO 102,400.

Based upon the 1D Mark III, this new DSLR also has an integrated vertical grip and a weather-sealed body. According to Canon, the Mark IV has the highest degree of weather resistance in the EOS line. This is a professional grade camera with study build and advanced features and customization.

Headline improvements include a new autofocus system and movie-recording mode. There are now 45 autofocus points with 39 of them being cross-type. The new system delivers the speed necessary to track moving subjects and shoot at 10 FPS. The Canon 1D Mark IV also records movie at 1080p, the highest HD resolution available. At records 1080p at 30 FPS and even records 720p at up to 60 FPS.

This is an incredibly ambitious DSLR. Achieving ISO 102,400 is difficult in itself but Canon is doing it with 25% more resolution on a smaller sensor than Nikon's just announced D3S. It is going to be very interesting to see the performance of these two camera.

The Canon EOS 1D Mark IV will be available later this year for $5499 CDN.
