Venus Unveils Laowa 19mm F/2.8 GFX Plus New Versions

Today Venus Optics released a large number of new products. One completely new lens was announced plus a few others had a mount added and more mounts were added to the Magic Shift Converter. The headline news is the new Laowa 19mm F/2.8 Zero-D GFX.

One of the widest lenses for Medium Format Digital Cameras, the Venus Optics Laowa 19mm F/2.8 Zero-D GFX is the second widest for the Fujifilm G-mount, right between two other offerings by Venus Optics. This ultra-wide lens captures a 100° field-of-view, similarly to a 15mm Full-Frame lens, with Zero Distortions according to press information released by Venus Optics.

This completely manual prime lens is extremely compact for having such a huge imaging-circle. It can focus at 18cm from the focal-plane which gives a 0.18X maximum magnification. A builtin hood protects the front of this unique lens for G-mount. This is is available now for $1000 USD.

A highly specialized adapter called Magic Shift Converter received three new mounts. This optic works like a tele-converter except that it adds shift capability by connecting a Full-Frame SLR lens onto an APS-C mirrorless mount and allowing ±10mm movements to correct perspective.

Existing versions of the Magic Shift Converter adapt Canon EF or Nikon F lenses to Sony E mounts. Today, Venus Optics announced three more versions: Canon EF to Nikon Z, Canon EF to Canon RF and Nikon F to Nikon Z. Depending on the exact model, the price is either $300 or $320 USD.
