Kwilt Launches Second Generation Personal Cloud

Kwilt just released two new personal cloud products. The new Kwilt 2 and Kwilt 3 are second generation hubs that serve as personal clouds. These innovative products reuse existing USB storage and make it accessible as private online storage. Each device offers multiple USB ports, Ethernet and WiFi connectivity plus a built-in SD card reader. The Kwilt 3 models brings the USB speed to 3.0 and is powered by a faster processor.

Both new Kwilt units accept up to 3 USB storage devices which are exposed in a platform agnostic way to provide a local cloud for computers, laptops, tablets and phones. A built-in SD card reader allows the copying of data directly into one of the attached storage devices to store files much more quickly. It is unclear if the SD reader accepts SDHC or SDXC card or if it supports UHS-II type cards. This will be checked once we have a unit for testing.

Users of Kwilt devices get most benefits of cloud storage - other than backup and replication - with complete privacy and flexibility of providing your own storage. Multiple storage and online services such as Instagram, Facebook, Google Photos and Drop Box are aggregated into a single stream which contain the full-resolution images and videos uploaded directly to the local Kwilt device. Once a Kwilt device is owned, user do not have to pay monthly fees to keep access since Kwilt is relying on completely local storage.

Kwilt2 and Kwilt3 are available for purchase immediately in the US for $79 and $149 respectively on MyKwilt.com and Indiegogo, and past customers are eligible for a 50% discount when upgrading to the new Kwilt devices. The Kwilt 4.0 apps are available for free on the Android and iTunes app stores, and the Mac and Windows apps are available at MyKwilt.com/downloads.
