Fujifilm Releases GF 250mm Telephoto Lens

Today Fujifilm launched the latest addition to its line-up of Medium Format lenses. The new Fujinon GF 250mm F/4R LM OIS WR offers a reach equivalent to a 200mm on Full-Frame, the longest of any GF-mount lens by a factor of over 2X. This state-of-the-art lens is built to capture upwards of 100 megapixels for future Medium Format Digital Cameras.

The Fujifilm Fujinon GF 250mm F/4R LM OIS WR sounds like a mouthful since it incorporates all the latest optical technologies from Fujifilm. It offers a 9-blade rounder aperture, linear focusing motors and built-in stabilization in a weatherproof body that is also freezeproof to -10C. This lens has an F/4-32 aperture-range and a minimum focus distance of 1.4m which gives it a 022X magnification.

To cover the entire Medium Format imaging circle and offer an F/4 aperture at a telephoto focal-length, the lens must be made so size. The GF 250mm F/4R is 10.8cm in diameter, 20.4cm long and weighs a hefty 1.4kg which is heavy even for a Medium Format lens. Fujifilm fitted this lens with a tripod color to support its weight.

Simultaneously with the launch of the new lens, Fujifilm unveiled three adapters for the GF-mount:

The tubes are compatible with all Fujinon GF-mount lenses. The GF1.4X is compatible at least with the GF 250mm F/4.

All these new items are scheduled to be available at the end of May. The Fujinon GF 250mm F/4R LM OIS WR carries a suggested price of $3300 USD or $4125 CAD. The GF 1.4X expects to cost $850 USD or $1050 CAD, while the extension tubes will cost the same at $330 USD or $410 CAD each.
