Fuji Reveals X30

Fujifilm just unveiled their new X30 premium compact digital camera. Closely resembling the X20, the new X-series addition features a 0.39" EVF with 2.4 MP, 100% coverage, 0.65X magnification and an Eye-Start sensor. It also adds a control-ring to serve as second control-dial while retaining its excellent and rare mechanical zoom.

The Fuji X30 retains the internals of its predecessor, include a 2/3" X-Trans CMOS II sensor with 12 megapixels and built-in Phase-Detect AF. This sensor uses a special 6x6 pseudo-random color-array and requires no anti-alias filtering to avoid moire. The lens also remains the same with a 28-112mm equivalent range and F/2-2.8 maximum aperture.

The big addition is obviously the large EVF which has an incredible 5ms lag time and is the largest in its class. It uses a low-power OLED panel and efficient EXR II processor. Together this gives the X30 a battery-life of 470 shots per-charge, much more than its predecessor.

The Fuji X30 is scheduled to ship next month for $599 USD or $649 CDN.
