Canon Publishes Extra Info on Upcoming R3 Mirrorless

Canon announced a few months ago that a new flagship mirrorless is in the works. While the original release was short on detail, today Canon started teasing some upcoming specifications for their next Full-Frame.

The Canon EOS R3 is expected to overtake the current R5 as flagship mirrorless by pushing speed and AF to the next level. Canon confirms that the R3 model number indicates expected performance that comes in between the flagship 1D X Mark III DSLR and R5 which mirrors the 5D Mark IV. There has never been a camera in that space and it appears that the R3 will resemble more the action photography leader.

Pushing limits of autofocus performance is a priority for the Canon EOS R3 that will be capable of focusing down to -7 EV, lower light than any current digital camera. Its new AF system is designed for high-speed tracking and will recognize cars and motorcycles, in additional to faces, eyes and bodies. Motorsports are difficult to capture even witth state-of-the-art cameras and the R3 will tackle those soon.

Ultra-fast 30 FPS continuous shooting available for images and RAW files using a newly developed electronic-shutter. This global shutter will support flash for the first time on a Canon camera without using a mechanical one. This shutter is expected to minimize artifacts when capturing 4K Ultra-HD video.

Clearly by its photo, the Canon EOS R3 is designed for high-end professional photography. Its body offers triple control-dials and dual hand-grips, plus dual AF joysticks. This camera will also offer WiFi 802.11ac and Ethernet for high-speed image-transfer.
