Canon Announces RF 14-35mm F/4 Lens

Canon just launched their widest lens for RF-mount. This is the second extreme-wide-zoom lens for Full-Frame mirrorless digital cameras, one that gets a little wider at the expense of brightness.

The new Canon RF 14-35mm F/4L IS USM is a professional-grade extremely-wide zoom lens that spans a 63-114° field-of-view. This makes it one of the widest Full-Frame rectilinear lenses on the market. Its constant F/4 maximum aperture maintains a steady exposure while the lens is zoomed. A rare optical image-stabilization for such a wide lens offers 5½-stops of shake compensation alone. Paired with the excellent Canon EOS R5 reviewed here, this stabilization mechanism reaches an incredible 7½-stops!

This is clearly a professional-level lens with a weatherproof body and independent focus and zoom rings, plus a customizable control-ring. Since it uses an ultra-sonic focus-motor, DMF should be available at all times. The lens extends while zooming but not focusing due to an internal focusing system. Due to its high-quality optics, the Canon RF 14-35mm F/4L IS USM weighs the same as the brighter RF 15-35mm F/2.8! At 840g, neither of these is a light lens, although the 14-35mm is shorter.
