Value is what you get out of something per dollar. Digital cameras have an extremely wide price range, from a few hundreds to tens of thousands (US dollars). Like most things, their value is proportional to what we get out of them. What we get out of a digital camera relates to each buyer's needs. In this series of episodes, features and properties of digital cameras are described in terms of their potential value.

Tools are objects which simplify specific tasks. A camera is a tool that simplifies the capture of images. Without a camera, images can still be captured by other methods, painting for instance. A camera however makes it simpler and more convenient to capture images the way we see them. A digital camera makes it so much simpler. Here lies the value of all digital cameras, regardless of their cost: to simplify the process of capturing visible images.
