Sony Alpha A7R VI Summary
Sony Alpha A7R VI Assessment
The new Sony Alpha A7R VI exceeds expectations. This Full-Frame Mirrorless Digital Camera nearly perfects its series with improvements in virtually all areas.
Image quality is unmatched among Full-Frame cameras, with more resolution, details and greater dynamic-range. It produces images with very little noise until high ISO. Its metering system, color and white-balance perform very reliably.
A 5-axis image-stabilization system inside the Sony A7R VI provides 8½-stops of efficiency. The 759-Point Phase-Detect AF system of this mirrorless is super fast, highly reliable and ultra-flexible. Its AI trained subject tracking function is very reliable too.
The Sony Alpha A7R VI is a rare camera that delivers both high-resolution and very fast continuous speed. Having 67 MP and a 30 FPS drive makes it incredibly versatile.
Ergonomically, this mirrorless camera is impressively refined. Its quadruple control-dials are really efficient and highly customizable. The implementation of dual memory is uniquely perfect. Its moderately compact body is comfortable to handle. Having the shutter close when off is a thoughtful detail too.
Once again, Sony produced the greatest EVF yet. The new ultra-sharp 9.4 MP 0.64" OLED EVF has a huge 0.9X magnification and shows 100% coverage with the full DCI-P3 color-space in 10-bits and refreshes at 120 FPS while allowing blackout-free shooting!
Finding any criticism for this camera was genuinely difficult. The table to the right shows that only minor ones were found. The one weakness is 8K video that is cropped and limited to 30 FPS. The rest can all be surmounted using accessories or by habit.
All this shows why the Sony Alpha A7R VI unlocks a new level of performance, making it the first camera to earn an Excellent++ rating!
