Comparative Crops

The Olympus Evolt E-620 is one of the smallest DSLRs available and is not even much larger than the mirror-less E-P1 which offers a slightly more advanced feature-set which includes ISO 6400, 2-axis digital level and movie-recording but no flash and much slower autofocus performance. Here we compare the Olympus E-620 to the Pentax K-7 which is a much more advanced DSLR and the Olympus E-P1, to see how the E-620 fits in terms of image quality. All images below are 100% crops at each available ISO setting. The camera was set to maximum image quality and aperture priority.

The crops below show that the E-620 produce very usable results up to ISO 400 whereas the other two manage this up to ISO 800. There is more softness and more noise in the E-620's images, probably due to a stronger anti-alias filter. Still, ISO 800 can be used for a mid-sized print and the higher ISO work for small prints as well.
