Sony Alpha A200 #1 DSLR in Canada

Sony informs us that their Alpha A200 was the #1 DSLR in Canada during the month May in terms of units sold. This is an excellent start for this new camera, just after winning the prestigious TIPA (Technical Image Press Association) Award for 2008 Best Entry Level DSLR in Europe. Congratulations Sony!

As Neocamera concluded in the full-review of the Sony Alpha A200, the combination of great image quality and simple interface is highly satisfying for DSLR beginners. Naturally, there tends to be more beginners than advanced users in any field and this gives the Alpha A200 a wider potential market than more advanced and powerful models like the Alpha A700.

The price-point of the A200 is an attractive part of its package, particularly given that this camera's built in stabilization potentially reduces the cost of lenses. With the Alpha series of DSLRs, Sony has sustained an effort to keep them affordable compared to similarly specified models, including the use of standard memory such as Compact Flash cards. In the US, two kits are available: Sony Alpha A200 with 18-70mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens and Sony Alpha A200 with 18-70mm f/3.5-5.6 and 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 Lenses
