Nikon Coolpix P7000 Outdoor Crops

The crops below show the performance of the Nikon Coolpix P7000 next to the same ISO for the Fujifilm Finepix F200 EXR
Fujifilm Finepix F200 EXR
. These cameras have a large sensitivity range, starting at ISO 100 and going up to ISO 3200 at full resolution, the P7000 also has full-resolution ISO 6400, while the Fuji goes up to 12800 but resolutions goes down to 3 MP.

All crops below are 100% from their respective camera taken at the highest image quality setting available. All other settings were left at their default values. These crops help determine which ISO settings can be acceptably used on these cameras. As noise increases, most cameras compensate with noise reduction which introduces softness. The point at which a print become unacceptably noisy is a matter of personal taste.

It is pretty much neck-and-neck here. The P7000 does quite well for bright exposures such as this one but its strong default noise reduction damages fine detailes. The Fuji could pull off better prints at the low ISO senstivities but the P7000 turns things around at ISO 1600, which is a fantastic acheivement for a fixed-lens digital camera.
