The Nikon Coolpix 8400 is an interesting alternative to most other 8 megapixel cameras. Feature-wise, it distinguishes itself by its very wide-angle lens which is ideal for architectural photography. Otherwise, it is very similar to the Nikon Coolpix 8800.

 

The Nikon 8400 produces nice pictures with natural colors, very little chromatic aberrations but high-noise and some corner softness. Like most non-SLR digital cameras, the 8400 tends to be quite slow.

 

Its closest competitor is the Olympus C7070 which has a 27mm wide-angle lens and a 7 megapixel sensor which exhibits much less noise
