Assessment
The Kodak Easyshare V610 is the smallest ultra-zoom camera currently on the market and the only one to qualify as an ultra-compact. This is achieved using two relatively slow unstabilized lenses for a combined range of 38-380mm in 35mm equivalent terms. Since there is no stabilization, the lenses are slow and noise levels are above average, the long end of the zoom is only usable in bright light. Unfortunately, these shortcomings undermine the unique selling point of this camera. For a small ultra-zoom camera, it is much more worth considering the Panasonic Lumix TZ1 which has a continuous 10X stabilized zoom lens in a compact body. Not considering the zoom, this digital camera turns out a poor performance with higher than average corner softness, vignetting, poor indoor white-balance, a weak flash and very poor battery-life. Since there are lots of ultra-compact cameras who perform better than this one and are much cheaper, there are not any real reasons to justify buying the V610. Vastly superior ultra-compact cameras include the excellent Fuji Finepix F30, Fuji Finepix F10, Canon Powershot SD550 and Canon Powershot SD500, which are all cheaper than the Kodak Easyshare V610.
