Assessment

Get another camera. The Kodak Easyshare P712 may be feature-rich with good ergonomics, but its image quality puts it behing all of its competitors. It produces overly soft and overly noisy images, normally you get one of these two since they usually hide each other. Another unacceptable problem is that the P712 does not show its entire subject, this may be normal for DSLR cameras, but it has not been a problem with fixed-lens digital cameras for several years.

For a better ultra-zoom camera, check out the Canon Powershot S3 IS, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7, Sony Cybershot DSC-H2, Sony Cybershot DSC-H5 or the non-stabilized but high-ISO capable Fuji Finepix S5200. All of these cameras offer superior image quality, specially the Fuji S5200, longer battery life and much faster speed of operation.
